Keeping ramp play safe

Set up away from stairs, glass doors and hard corners so a stray car does no harm. Make sure a large plank or heavy book cannot topple onto small fingers or toes. Choose rolling toys that are too big to swallow for children who still mouth objects, since small wheels and marbles are a choking hazard. If the ramp is high, keep your child from climbing or riding it themselves.

When to check in with someone

This is playful learning with nothing to pass or fail, so relax and enjoy it. That said, trust your instincts about your child's development. If you notice they are not reaching for, watching or reacting to moving toys as you would expect for their age, or you have broader concerns about movement, sight, hearing or attention, it is reasonable to raise it with your health visitor or GP. Early questions are welcomed, and there is never any harm in asking.
